Scorekeeper’s Comments

Week 1 (Aug 9), Wednesday started with stronger gusts than are usual for a hot summer day. Then as the boats were approaching the first mark, there were a series of major wind shifts. Then conditions settled to the more near drifting conditions. I thought I was at Pine Crest. Maybe the wind gods wanted to give us a tune-up for the Worlds coming up next week.

Week 2 (Aug 16), Dave brought a long time friend Keith Wilson. Keith claims he never sailed before, but he did a good job handling Dave's extra boat, and even lead the fun race at one point. With Art and Art and John P off to Pine Crest, Tony and Paul each scored a bullet using their recently delivered sails.

Week 3 (Aug 23), No comments.

Week 4 (Aug 30), Last week Paul and Malcolm took DNC while Greg and Tony did well. With this weeks results added in, the scores are close enough that any one of them has a chance for the quarter. Since we are now 2/3 of the way through the "quarter", the points totals include 2 of the 3 throw outs. The new scoring program makes updating the throw outs very easy. With and without throw outs, the relative positions of the above possible Q4 challengers is the same, but luck, skill, and wind changes will be more important than scoring software.

Week 5 (Sep 6), Only six boats sailed this past week. The winds were light, but you might still call them a breeze instead of a whisper. One more week will end Q4.

Week 6 (Sep 13), The breeze today was never strong, but strong enough that the water was always covered with ripples. The scoring for the quarter was close enough that several sailors had a mathematical chance to win. Paul got a good start in race one and finished second, but Malcolm right behind. In race 2, Greg got a lucky wind shift in the last leg and finished half a boat length ahead of Paul. When all the points are added up, Paul took the quarter. BTW, the finishing order is the same with 0, 1, and 2 throwouts, as well as with the official 3 throwouts. Who will win Q5? Greg? Malcolm? Tony? Will John G sail this year and break his tie with Pizzaman?
