Scorekeeper’s Comments

Week 1 (Sep. 22), Very light, warm winds Wednesday. The Professor and Max did a horizon job on the fleet in race one leaving the rest of the fleet in a windless puddle just past the first mark. Things were much more interesting in race two with some close racing. Max scored two bullets. There were four boats out Wednesday gunning for that final 5th quarter cup. Malcolm, Paul, Dan and Greg all looked almost serious about finishing the year with an addition to their glassware. That should lead to some great races in the weeks ahead.

Week 2 (Sep. 22), Another pleasant sailing evening at the reservoir. Thought we might have some breeze early on but the wind went from light to very light by the end of race one. Shoreline should provide more wind next week. Max and Art did a semi-horizon job on the fleet in race one. Art prevailed. Art went far left on first leg of race two, which did not work, leaving John the job to try to hunt down Max with no success. Greg moved into the lead for the the 5th quarter cup with Paul close behind. The lake level is getting very close to centerboard grinding levels, although no one did any spontaneous underwater centerboard sanding yet. The shift to Shoreline will save some of us some faring work.

Week 3 (Oct. 6) Whoa, what a difference a couple miles makes. PLENTY of wind at Shoreline. Most of us were up on the rail for most of the evening. Max and Art Lange displayed the skills they honed at Pinecrest this summer and swapped 1-2 finishes. Fifth quarter leader Greg Morrill was noticeably absent. That puts Paul and Malcolm back in the fray. Welcome to new El Toro sailor Allen Cooper who joined us this evening, but chose not to race as he gets familiar with his boat. In all that wind Allen did NOT tip over and stayed dryer than the rest of us Ð nice work!

Week 4 (Oct. 13) What a difference a week makes. Almost no wind at Shoreline this week. Almost made us wish we were back at Steven’s Creek. Max showed us his national champion style scoring two bullets. Q5 scoring is updated to tentatively score DNC as "12". With that, Paul Z. has a bit of a lead over Greg, Dan and Dave. Stay tuned! Only two weeks left for the year. Come out and have some fun before the only thing you have to look forward to is the holiday party.

Week 5 (Oct. 20) No scorekeeper comments.

Week 6 (Oct. 27) Another terrific season ends at the reservoir, this time with two resident North American Champions. Thanks for bringing a whole lot of respect to the Dogs, Max and Art! A big congratulations to Dan Mills who rejoined us in force during the 5th quarter and went on to earn his glass. Dan was followed closely by both Paul Zander and Greg Morrill. For the first time in years, season honors go to someone other than Art Lange. Congratulations Max Fraser, for nudging Art out of the top spot, by a slim margin of just 3 points after over 50 races. Most improved performance for the regulars goes to Greg Morrill, who bested his average finish from 2003 by a whopping 1.15 places. Way to bubble along, Greg!

HP Sailors Triumph at Pinecrest!

HP Sailing Club regulars Max Fraser (Juniors) and Art Lange (Seniors) were both triumphant at the recently held North American Championship Regatta at Pinecrest Lake. A hearty congratulations to both of you. Rarely at a loss for words, Art has written a detailed account of the racing and various observations about the regatta. Read it here.
