Scorekeeper’s Comments

Week 1 (May 19), Interesting night, even for Stevens Creek. Gusts, mostly from the west, in mid-teens punctuated by calm. Marks set at Hurricane Gulch and the far end of the dam. Winds continued to build during the races to a consistent 10+ knots at sunset. Paul Tara enjoyed the gusts immensely and was able to dial-in success despite the chaos -- Paul leads Q2.

Week 2 (May 26), As confirmed by Art Lewis, last Wednesday was as typical as it get at Steven’s Creek. Light breezes over the dam. Shifty with some occasional breeze out of the west. Long, grueling down wind ballets as the breeze died toward evening. Paul Tara proves his light air skills this week with a 1-2, maintaining his Q2 leadership. PaulÕs son Patrick made it an even better evening for his Dad by joining the racing fleet for the first time this season. Glad you could join us Patrick!

Week 3 (June 2), Nice northerly winds over the dam provided some great racing Wednesday. All the practice at Whiskeytown seemed to help Art Lange find the accelerator this week as he scored two bullets. Art slips into first place in the standings for the quarter. Looks like a real horse race between Art Lange and Paul Tara for this quarter’s glass.

Week 4 (June 9), The reservoir treated us to a wild evening. Microbursts out of the west and south kept us climbing in and out of the boats all evening. I saw whitecaps at one point. All participants displayed excellent high wind skills and enjoyed some excellent practice for the north shore at Pinecrest. Only one point [or two points after throwouts] separates Art Lange and Paul Tara, with Art maintaining the lead with two weeks left in the quarter.

Week 5 (June 16), The reservoir was kind to your scorekeeper Wednesday. The bald guy with the funny Polish name scored two bullets, one within inches of Professor Lange because the Professor had to try to cover both Max and John P. Winds were light, consistent and warm—a delightful evening at the reservoir.

The last week of the quarter is coming up next Wednesday. Paul Tara did not show Wednesday leaving Art Lange with a five point lead after throw-outs. Paul will need to sail really fast this coming Wednesday to have a chance at a Q2 glass.

Week 6 (June 23), With no less than six first place finishes and three second place finishes Art Lange gets a glass for Q2. ÊCongratulations Art!
